Swoboda Charters offers 5-to-10-day spring black bear hunts in some of Alaska's most secluded country. As a big-game transporter, Scott and the crew of the Allen Ray function as a remote floating lodge providing top-class amenities. (All hunts are non-guided.)
Spring hunts take place in remote portions of the Kenai Peninsula — home to one of the world's densest black bear populations. Hunters hike mountainous terrain over watering holes, feeding areas, and travel routes. Between stalks you can fish for some of Alaska's most prestigious catches: halibut and yellow-eye rockfish.
Every trip begins with traveling to the hunting grounds while hunters settle into their bunk rooms. Each day starts with a hot breakfast as hunters form a plan of attack. Field pack lunches are prepared, then hunters board the skiff and are shuttled to the hunting location of their choice.
Hunters proceed until ready to return or move to another spot, then radio back to the Allen Ray for pickup. Back aboard, dinner is served and the night is spent butchering game, watching movies, and reminiscing on the day.
We fit up to six hunters at a time, with a 2-person minimum to start a booking. A 3.5% card processing fee applies on all card sales. A 15% gratuity is collected before your trip.
